Night Visions
by Stephen Fairfield
NIGHT VISIONS! is a collaborative public art, digital projection project that hopes to ignite an interest in establishing ongoing digital projection/architectural mapping in downtown Tucson. Funded by an Art Tank Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, the first projection was June 14th during 2nd Saturday Downtown at 20 E. Congress Street. The next performance will be on July 12, same address, beginning after dark. Tucson area artists who would like some images of their work to be included in the next projection should contact sfairfieldart@powerc.net .
Animations from across the country, images of Tucson area artists’ work, with a sound track accompaniment provided by Tucson area musical groups are projected to promote Tucson art to the general public, bringing art to people “where they are”. Glenn W. said: “that was really cool!” The images, the music…I thought it was great to see a range of different Tucson artists’ work outside the gallery environment. I never get a chance to get to them, but this fascinated me, and I hope you come back next month!”
The performances are a collaborative venture, conceptualized and executed by Stephen Fairfield (www.solarsculptures.com), Ellery Connell, Assistant Professor of Animation and Special Effects at ASU-Phoenix (www.sm-graphics.com ), and David Aguirre, Dinnerware Artspace (https://www.facebook.com/DinnerwareArtspace ). Following NIGHT VISIONS! David is beginning to plan a projection festival featuring Tucson video and animation artists in July and August. interested artists are encouraged to contact him directly (dinnerwareartspace@gmail.com) .
